California Bay Laurel
(Genus Umbellularia)

California Bay Laurel, Umbellularia californica, can be found in the costal
forests of Oregon, California and Mexico. They can also be found in
the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. In Oregon it is
known as Oregon Myrtle. California Bay Laurel is similar to Bay
Laurel. Bay Laurels leaves are wavy on the edges. California Bay
Laurels leaves are smooth.
California Bay
Laurel are not that common on the property but they can be found in the
smaller creeks and more sheltered areas. They are a popular seasoning
in cooking and tea. They have a strong odor that some enjoy.
When dry the leaves are very flammable.
