Welcome to QuailhavenThis land is a treasure, an oasis for many animals. You are the visitor and this is their home. Here, a slower pace relaxes with tranquility and peace. Clean air and open spaces invite the senses. Birds chirping, quail rustling, and deer grazing is a way of life forgotten in the cities.Wild turkey roam and birds, of many varieties, fill the trees. Frogs and crickets fill the night air with their songs. The sounds of ravens and crows echo in the valley. There are many varieties of flora in this forest like fir, pine, oak, madrone and manzanita, to name only a few. Many varieties of plants and wild flowers can also be seen here at different seasons of the year. This web site has the experiences of those who have come to this place to renew their souls with Mother Nature’s tranquility.NewsThe Winter Solstice is nearly here, although the calendar still says it's Fall, 17 December. Winter has arrived as far as the weather is concerned. Rain fall is over twenty-three inches so far with plenty more on the way. We've even had snow, only and inch or two but snow non the less. I do miss the sunshine soaking into my pours and I'm not a fan of the longer cold nights, but I'm grateful for every drop of rain to end this drought. Spring will be here soon and the land must rejuvenate itself to prepare for that time. It's a cycle. The Quailhaven vegetable garden, gave mixed results. My Sun Sugar cheery tomatoes did the best yielding many uncounted trays of tomatoes. Most became gifts to neighbors and friends. I loved eating them fresh off the vines as they were sweet and delicious. The Early Girl tomatoes were not early at all but did yield a crop near the end. Many ripened up in my home after a few days. Their flavor was good but not great. For now I planning a cover crop of Red Clover over the winter to fix the nitrogen in the soil.IssuesAs you may have noticed I have been absent from updating the site for almost two years. Family issues pulled me away which have which required my full attention. So you may find various links outside the web site that no longer work. In the weeks and months ahead I will be testing each one and updating or removing the bad ones. Thank you for contacting me and reporting these issues. (Still working on this... so please be patient.)Data collection for the current weather section has ceased, but you can review past records in that section. I am researching more accurate temperature gauges and considering an automated data collection for record keeping so this is on hold for now.If you are not already using the browser Mozilla Firefox I recommend it. It is secure and easy to use. Its variable text feature makes it very user friendly for the visually challenged user. For more information about it go to http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/.
