Incense Cedar

(Calocedrus decurrens)

There is only one cedar tree that I know of on Quailhaven.  It was planted by my Grand Parents and Parents in the late 1960's.  The little tree was planted in the field near the road.  Everyone who came during the dry months watered the tree to help it get its start here.  It is a slow growing tree, unlike the fast growing firs and pines that watch over it. Today it is about 25 feet tall and proudly stands watch over the field with the other trees.

Calocedrus decurrens (California Incense-cedar) is native to western North America.  It can reach heights of over 200 feet or 69 meters.  It is decay resistant and has a very  pleasant smell.
