Madrone

(Genus Arbutus)

Pacific Madrone, Arbutus menziesii, is native to California and the Pacific North West costal ranges.  It grows best in the shade of other trees.  Its average height is 25 feet but can grow as high as 75 feet.  It has a distinctive red peeling bark.  It grows red berries that the birds just love.  They can live over 200 years.

Pacific Madrone trees are common and are found in a variety of areas on the property.  Under the trees, in the forest, is the most common area to see them.  They are almost as common as the fir tree in this area.
