Quailhaven has California Redwood or Coast Redwood trees. This
evergreen has a very long life span. The oldest known is 2200 years
old. They can reach heights of about 112 meters or 367.5 feet.
Its wood is much sought after because of its resistance to decay.
Redwood trees were logged in the area but no trees were re-planted on this land until
about 1970. Of the trees planted only one grew to about 25 feet.
The other trees have not done as well but are now getting extra water during
the summer months and are looking better.
This winter I
am planting about 100 Redwood seedlings. My hope is to bring back
these beautiful trees into this eco system. They will need water during
the summer for the first few years, to boost there survival rate, but my dream
is seeing them flourish once again.
