California Fawn Lily (Erythronium californicum) is in the family
Liliaceae (Lily family), of the genius Erythronium.
Its common names are California Fawn Lily, California Fawnlily and Fawn
Lily. This species is native to California and found only in the north
western part of the state.
This is a bulb and its flower is a hermaphrodite,
with both male & female organs. This plant has two leaves with a
single stem and blossom.
It prefers a slope, well drained, in rich humus and
slightly acid soil. It requires semi-shade.
This wild flower was found in the eastern section, on a slope, of the edge
of Quailhaven in the shade. They
are very rare on Quailhaven but I have seen a few others near by. They began flowering in April 2007.
