My Grandmother
had a dream of a “Home in the Gold Country.” One of the many places
searched, over the years, was Mendocino County and Quailhaven was the result
in the 1960’s.
The property was logged in the 1940’s and is today
still recovering from that event. Reminders are still present today. Logging
roads, large stumps and logs of very large trees can still be found. Only a
few trees were left that were too small to cut or were seed trees. One very
large fir tree was left as a seed tree. It has been named Fangorn.
Over the years the trees grew up and now stand proudly
over the land. They’re not as tall or as big as their parents were but we
protect them and the animals that live here in this coastal rain forest.
