Black-tailed Jackrabbit

I have seen Jackrabbits in several areas of
Quailhaven. The field area seems to be a favorite because of it's
grass. There is a lot of rabbit scat here. I regularly see Jackrabbits
in different sections of Quailhaven. I have seen them chase each other
in the field,
which is part of their mating ritual.
I have found what I believe is
their burrow in a section of the field. They are very shy creatures
and stay out of sight most of the time. Several neighbors have seen
Jackrabbits playing in the field as they drive by.
As deer graze
the area I often see a Jackrabbit feeding along side them. In the
early morning I often see the Jackrabbit grazing outside the cabin at a
distance. When startled, with the slightest noise, the Jackrabbit can
move at amazing speed away from the area.
Black-tailed
Jackrabbit, Lepus californicus, is common for this area.
