Orange Peel
Orange Peel Fungus
(Aleuria aurantia)
|
Orange Peel Fungus (Aleuria aurantia) or Orange Cup, is a cup fungus.
It is most commonly seen is disturbed soil, road beds, flower beds, etc.
It likes clay soil. Fall and winter are common times of the year, in
California, to see it growing.
Aleuria
aurantia is edible, but not highly rated. I do not recommend it, since some
similar species of, Otidea, orange colored, may contain dangerous toxins.
It's not worth the risk.
This was found growing beside a trail under the trees. This section
was a very dark part of the forest near a steam. This is the only
place I have found this fungus so far.
Note: The photo
identification is not confirmed.
